A few months ago, The Eastside Boys and Girls Club announced that they’ll be closing their East Side Branch in early June in the Tacoma Weekly.

Last year, the South End Branch closed sending those youth to the East Side Branch.  Now this fall the youth will be "shipped" four miles away to a new location at the old Mount Tacoma High School housed under the (HOPE) Organization.  It is good that there are organizations in place to pick up the pieces when it comes to programs that have been in our communities for years, but why are our underserved communities not being serverd?

How does a organization so established in this Eastside community lose funding and safe haven for our youth?  What will be the alternative this Summer for our youth to detour them from gangs and boredom…. DreamKidz Summer Day Camp!

DreamKidz Summer Day Camp is a program that has been established by DreamCity Northwest Community Developers and will be housed at the DreamKidz Childcare Academy on 701 E 72nd Street here in the Eastside Community of Tacoma.  "Our program will be packed with 9 weeks of fun, adventure, and pure excitement", says executive director Gerri Barsh of DreamCity Northwest Community Developers.  The plan of the program is to not only serve the children but the parents as well.  "We want to make it easy on the parents with drop off  and pick up times, lunches, and activities for the kids to partake in", says Mrs. Barsh.
